Voting Day in BC
It is Voting Day in British Columbia
Democracy is a privilege. One must exercise this privilege. After many years away from the polls, today I plan to mark the ballot and make choices. Our local polling station is at the Leisure Centre, conveniently located next to the Soccer Fields where I will be watching my son play his game later this afternoon after work. 18 years ago I took my oldest, in his car seat, to the polling station. This year I will take my 16-year old son to the polling station after his game to see democracy in action.
It has been too many years since I last cast a ballot. Resuming this one seemingly small action is yet another step back onto my own personal track.
And last evening, I drove into the city for the Christmas Party. It was pretty interesting. I chatted with a few people and even saw a lady who was my boss 21 years ago! Not surprisingly, she didn’t remember me but it proved, once again, how small the world is.
The return trip detoured through downtown Vancouver. I had CBC Radio 2 turned up to the Jazz Program, heat cranked, windows down, cruising through downtown amongst the crowds from the Orpheum and Rogers Arena. Friday night in the city. It was grand!
I thought about parking on Robson, grabbing a coffee and strong amongst the people, shops and lights. The realities of the drive home and when I would land in bed kept me in the vehicle driving towards the highway.
I do picture heading into the city though, perhaps on a date (!), to enjoy an Evening In The City with some man who would like to spend time with me.
It is a gloriously sunny Saturday here in Sea To Sky Country.
Remember to vote today, British Columbia.
