Time For Me

Tonight and next Wednesday evening, I will be putting myself out there in new social settings.

Tonight’s event involves driving into the city after work to attend a Christmas Dinner hosted by one of the lending banks that service our Dealership.  I am going by myself and will oly now one other person there, our representative from said Bank.  I tried to get another ticket for a girlfriend who I haven’t seen in months, but the event is Sold Out.  We will rendezvous after dinner.

The other event next week is a “Dynamic Women” Meet Up for the first 23 women who register.  I was the 8th lady on the list!

When I heard about both events, at different times, my instinct was to say “Yes” to the invitations.

Being in a crowd of complete strangers, for some strange reason, does not intimidate me.  I know I will probably stand around and wait for someone to talk with me, but sitting at a table give me at least two different people with whom to chat.  And, to be pointedly vain, I know I can turn heads.  I am sure that there will be one or two stereotypical womanizers who will approach me.  Ha, bring it on!  I’ve fended off more than my share of unsavoury types over the years (especially when bikini-clad and in Sailing-Amazon shape).

I can hardly wait to see yet another girlfriend.  And she is stunning.  I like to call her a “Hong Kong Beauty”.  Past professional model, smart, funny and a proud mother of a two-year-old.  The last time we saw each other, we both had husbands.  Now we are both separated and single mums.  And still not bad looking, if I say so myself!

My boss has also passed along the keys to a new Jeep Cherokee to drive tonight.  The perks of working at a car dealership and attending an event as a representative of the dealership.  The hilarious part is that I have to stop en route to pick up a dismantled bunk bed to bring home.  Too funny.

Wednesday’s Meet Up was spotted while I was lying in bed on  Remembrance Day morning.  My three teenagers continued to sleep while I was scrolling through Facebook and Meet Up.  A notice appeared for a Dynamic Women of Squamish meeting and I signed up instantly.  It simply felt like the right thing to do:  A chance to meet some new women in the town where I live.  Perfect.

I feel my boundaries expanding.  Getting involved where I want to be involved.  I attended an all-candidates forum last week for the upcoming Municipal Election (remember to vote tomorrow if you live in BC); I want to attend a couple of concerts coming up in the next couple of weeks at a local venue; I walk/run/hike wherever and whenever I like (well, almost...when I’m not working!).  It is not exactly impulsive behaviour, it is simply doing what I desire to do at any given moment in time.

Another twist on the word Freedom.

And yes, I am going to vote tomorrow in the Municipal Election.

To Be Continued … I’m off to the City!
